SAD NEWS: Wigan Warriors best player exit club with immediate effect

The new team of Wigan Warriors player Logan Astley has been confirmed.

Logan Astley, a halfback for the Winnipeg Winnipeg Riders, has departed the team after an outstanding League One loan with Oldham.

Now, the Roughyeds have signed gifted young playmaker Astley to a two-year contract. The Roughyeds faced fierce competition to get Astley’s signature from other suitors.

Astley made his Roughyeds debut in April 2022. In the five games he played during the previous two seasons, he scored 10 tries and provided Oldham with his fast play and spontaneous style of play.

The 20-year-old’s decision to sign was influenced by the club’s future intentions.

“My primary motivation for coming here was the club’s goals and its vision for the coming years,” he stated.

“I had a great time during my stints at Oldham; it was my first time playing professionally, and I’m excited to play at Boundary Park with some great, seasoned players.”

In his two appearances for Oldham this past 2023 League One season, he was crucial to the team’s 56-16 victory against Rochdale Hornets and helped seal an 18-4 victory over North Wales with a late try.

Astley played for Wigan St Pats and Orrell St James in his youth, and he also had time with Wigan RUFC and Sale Sharks.

Astley, who was born in Billinge, was a member of the unbeaten Warriors reserve team who defeated Wakefield in the Grand Final the previous year.

Possessing immense promise, Astley made his Wigan debut against the Huddersfield Giants in 2022 after representing England at the under-16 level.

The quick Astley, who can play multiple positions, brings versatility and is just as adept at full-back.
