Adam Clune, a former half of the Newcastle Knights and St George Illawarra Dragons, has officially signed with the Huddersfield Giants.

Despite having to wait a long period to be considered for NRL responsibilities, Clune has grown to be a valuable member of the Knights squad. He supported Tyson Gamble and Jackson Hastings throughout the majority of the 2023 season, not being able to play until Round 25.

Clune played a few games during the campaign while Jackson Hastings watched from the sidelines, and the Knights had an incredible last two and a half months, winning nine games in a row to make it to the finals.

In the semi-final in Auckland, Clune played his last game wearing the Knights’ colors. He performed admirably, even though the Warriors lost, and went on to a preliminary final where they were beaten the next week by the Brisbane Broncos.

Nevertheless, Clune has decided to leave the NRL and move to England. The 28-year-old has agreed to a two-year contract with Huddersfield that would keep him there through at least the end of the 2025 campaign.

Known for his kicking ability, Clune will have to compete against players like Jake Connor, Olly Russell, Tuimoala Lolohea, and Kieran Rush to be included in Huddersfield’s top 17, but he should be able to earn a spot to wear the halfback shirt.

Clune declared himself “very excited.”

“I can’t wait to start playing for the Giants. My spouse and I are eager to begin our new chapter in life together in the UK. I’m excited to get there, meet the players and staff, and begin working for a successful 2024 season because it looks like a pretty strong club, Clune stated.

“The coach is usually a big factor when I join with a new squad. Before I signed, I spoke with Watto [coach Ian Watson] a few times, and he really thrilled me about joining the playing group and the club. I am thrilled to be working with Watto going forward as, in my opinion as a halfback, it is crucial to get along well with the coach.

“As a half-back, my main goal is to carry out my duties by leading the team around the field, effectively communicating, kicking the ball well, giving players around me room and time, and never giving up. I am excited to participate.
