According to Dr. Rajpal Brar, West Brom defender Martin Kelly has been absent for several weeks with what appears to be a severe knee injury.
According to the injury expert, the 33-year-old and the Baggies staff were exceedingly meticulous in their return to action.
The club’s Director of Medical, Tony Strudwick, stated that he expected him back in August, but the Englishman was quite clear about how he intended to return. [Live in Birmingham]
Brar, an expert in Physical Therapy and Sports Scientist, told West Brom News exclusively about Kelly’s injury:
“As Tony Strudwick points out, it appears that the player was involved in the decision to be very methodical and conservative with his return timeline.”
“Given the timeline and the player’s hesitation, it sounds like a significant knee injury, but it’s difficult to say how severe it is.”
“He does appear to be weeks away from making his first-team return.”
Kelly’s contract at the Hawthorns expires at the end of the season, and he is unlikely to be re-signed.
He hasn’t played for the senior team since joining from Crystal Palace, where he was a regular.
Even at Wigan, he appeared to be gaining game time, but an injury ended his loan tenure.
