Cardiff City manager pays tribute to Sunderland after late winner
Cardiff City defeated Sunderland 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Cardiff City manager Erol Bulut praised his team’s defensive resilience after ending Sunderland’s winning streak at the Stadium of Light.
Bulut lauded Sunderland as one of the finest possession teams in the league, and stated his squad had to fight for the three points.
The Black Cats had the better chances in the game, but were defeated when Mark McGuinness converted a corner in the 87th minute.
“First and foremost, congratulations to Sunderland; they are a fantastic team,” Bulut remarked.
“They are one of the best offensive teams in the division, and I believe they have a lot of players with a bright future here.”
“It wasn’t easy to get this win, and sometimes you have to fight when you have fewer chances to win, and today was one of those days.”
“We fought hard, but we could have done more with the ball.” But what we did with the ball was good, and in the end we had an opportunity where it was easier to score than put it over the bar, but that’s football. I’m delighted we were able to get three points in such a challenging arena.
“I’m very pleased with our defending because we were leading against Leeds and Ipswich in our first two games and lost.” The concentration against the ball was not what I wanted, but it has improved dramatically in recent weeks.”
Cardiff moved up to seventh place in the rankings, level on points with Sunderland.
