Top Deal: Fabrizio Romano confirms Nottingham Forest accept bid for top European player

Nottingham Forest has reportedly accepted an offer to sell Gustavo Scarpa, a move that is expected to generate a profit for the club at The City Ground, as per Fabrizio Romano.

Nuno in at Nottingham Forest

Owner Evangelos Marinakis has had a hectic week, opting to dismiss Steve Cooper, who had been in charge for over two years, and appoint Nuno Espirito Santo as his replacement.

The former Wolves and Tottenham manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, has already spoken to the media and expressed praise for Steve Cooper, stating: “We have a good group of players, a squad that needs to become better. What Steve [Cooper] did here is amazing. Putting Forest back in the Premier League, keeping Forest in the Premier League. That shows how good Forest fans are, the respect they show for Steve. That says a lot about our fans. We are trying to improve his legacy.”

Nuno then added:

Nuno Espirito Santo emphasized his focus on improving players and helping them reach their potential, stating, “What we can bring is to try and improve the players. Help players become better, give them the solution that they need to compete well – starting on Saturday. Play good and win – that’s the biggest challenge we have ahead of us. It’s a huge challenge.”

Nuno’s debut match in charge is a significant one at home against Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday. As the January transfer window approaches, quick decisions may be necessary regarding player retention and potential sales.

Gustavo Scarpa, who has been out on loan at Olympiacos and hasn’t featured for Nottingham Forest this season, is reportedly on the verge of leaving the club on a permanent basis after Forest accepted a bid for his services.

Nottingham Forest accept Gustavo Scarpa bid

According to Fabrizio Romano, who shared the information on X on Wednesday, Nottingham Forest has accepted an offer for attacking midfielder Gustavo Scarpa from Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro. Romano stated:

“Nottingham Forest have accepted bid in excess of €5m for Gustavo Scarpa to join Atletico Mineiro. Personal terms agreed and documents being exchanged soon.”

Scarpa, described as “creative” by Brazilian coach Tite, joined Nottingham Forest at the beginning of the year on a free transfer from Palmeiras. However, his time at The City Ground and in Greece, where he was on loan at Olympiacos, did not go as planned.

As evident from his statistics, the attacking midfielder Gustavo Scarpa has not scored or provided an assist for Nottingham Forest or Olympiacos in 2023. Given his lack of impact and the absence of success during his time in England and Greece, returning to Brazil, where he previously had success with Palmeiras and Fluminense, seems to be the right decision for all parties involved.

Nottingham Forest stands to make a profit of over €5 million on Scarpa, whom they signed for free at the beginning of the year. The potential positive outcome suggests that all parties involved in the deal could be content with the result. It appears to be only a matter of time until Scarpa departs permanently.
