“I harbor no intent to inflict harm or damage anyone’s career.” Rams tight end Tyler Higbee tore

suffered a severe setback in the wild card round of the playoffs against the Lions, tearing both his MCL and ACL.

The injury occurred when Lions safety Kerby Joseph targeted Higbee’s legs late in the game, causing his knee to buckle.

Joseph faced criticism for these hits and took to social media to respond, emphasizing that he had no intention of causing harm or jeopardizing anyone’s career. The hits prompted Vikings safety Harrison Smith to enter the online discussion, expressing his disapproval of such plays.

Smith acknowledged that while he isn’t a fan of these hits, the NFL’s rules may inadvertently encourage defensive backs to make them, considering it an effective way to defend without incurring penalties. He admitted, “I don’t like it either.”

Rams head coach Sean McVay weighed in on Higbee’s injury, noting that due to its timing, the tight end is likely to begin the 2024 season on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about player safety and the impact of certain plays on careers, prompting discussions about the balance between aggressive play and protecting athletes from potentially career-ending injuries.
