Interest Grows for Bruce Brown Jr. as Trade Deadline Approaches

As the February 8 trade deadline looms on the horizon, an influx of trade inquiries for Bruce Brown Jr. has reportedly inundated the Toronto Raptors.

Marc Stein shared on his podcast This League Uncut that multiple contenders are actively pursuing the 6-foot-4 wing.

Following the recent acquisition of Brown in the trade with the Indiana Pacers for Pascal Siakam, Toronto has communicated its desire for a trade package involving at least a first-round pick and a player of notable quality, according to Stein.

The Raptors, having received an abundance of calls concerning Brown, now find themselves in a position to explore potential deals in the remaining two weeks leading up to the trade deadline, as highlighted by Chris Haynes on the podcast.

Notably, due to NBA trade regulations, Brown cannot be bundled with other players in a single transaction during this season, restricting Toronto from executing a trade where Brown is packaged with another player before the deadline.

Among the list of potential landing spots for Brown, the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks have surfaced as contenders in the pursuit.

The Denver Nuggets have also expressed interest in Brown, as mentioned by Haynes.

However, the Nuggets face a hurdle in lacking the requisite first-round pick capital to entice Toronto into a potential deal.

Despite this, Haynes expressed confidence in Toronto’s ability to secure a favorable trade, stating, “I don’t think they’ll have a problem at all getting a first and a player back in return.” Brown’s contract details provide additional flexibility for the Raptors, with him earning $22 million this year and a team option for $23 million next year.

This flexibility allows Toronto to retain Brown for the remainder of the season and explore trade opportunities in the upcoming summer if a suitable deal does not materialize in the weeks ahead.
