NEWS NOW: The Boston Celtics have confirmed the addition of a new star, who will provide a significant boost to the squad.

Former Celtics player believes the team should pursue unsigned centers.

The Boston Celtics made another significant offseason splash by quickly acquiring Jrue Holiday from the Portland Trail Blazers.

They’ve found an ideal replacement for Marcus Smart and his tough and pesky backcourt defense, and while he may not be as loud a leader as Smart, he might still give them a lot of what they gave up to obtain Kristaps Porzingis.

They did, however, lose another vital piece in Robert Williams III in order to get Holiday, which is why former NBA champion Matt Barnes feels they should scout the free agent market extensively.

According to Barnes, they should try to contact Dwight Howard and/or DeMarcus Cousins.

Barnes has frequently campaigned for veterans, believing that every team should have a handful of them to teach the younger players the ins and outs of the NBA lifestyle.

Cousins and Howard had been playing overseas in Puerto Rico and Taiwan, respectively, and both have expressed a strong desire to return to the NBA.

Cousins provided respectable minutes off the bench for the Denver Nuggets two years ago, and it appeared that he could still play in the NBA.

Perhaps his reputation as a tough-minded and powerful character has turned off some teams, as it did for Howard.

Howard is clearly past his peak and is no longer the lockdown defender he once was, but he can still contribute off the bench, and the Celtics can’t go wrong with either of them.
