“The home crowd has my sincere gratitude,” Stroman remarked. “The atmosphere was amazing when I arrived there thirty or forty minutes before kickoff. That is something I really like.

It seems like I can get myself back up in those situations. It means the world to me to feel the affection from the audience.

From his early afternoon stroll to the bullpen, to waving a towel and making crazy gestures toward fans in the right-field bleachers, the 32-year-old Stroman was fired up. Stroman acknowledged that his lack of sleep the night before had prevented him from eating much.

“Every child who aspires to play baseball envisions themselves pitching on Opening Day for the New York Yankees at home,” Stroman remarked.

Captain Aaron Judge said of the player, “The guy shows up and makes pitches when he has to, and got out of some tough jams.” It’s been entertaining to watch him work and learn about his preparation for the games. It’s incredible. We just weren’t able to get him a few runs today, but he still performed the same for us.

According to Stroman, “baseball is a game of ups and downs.” I don’t think we’ll have many beginnings like that with this team. They’ll succeed in swinging it. They will score many runs. We started off hot while traveling, but occasionally you just end up in games where you’re not as hot.

The Yanks were shut out in their home opener for the first game since 1967 (3-0 against the Red Sox).

After Stroman froze the Jays on three hits over a 98-pitch outing (57 for strikes), striking out six and walking one, Clement unleashed a pinch-hit monster off left-hander Caleb Ferguson. As a Yankee, Stroman has pitched 12 innings without giving up an earned run.

The afternoon was spoilt by the Blue Jays, as New York lost 3-0 at Yankee Stadium after a scoreless tie was broken by a home run by Ernie Clement in the seventh inning.
