Michael Soroka had an awful start to his White Sox career after an incredible Spring Training.
The first batter he faced took a triple off him, then he gave up a single, a walk, and two more singles after that. Before Soroka got an out, the score was 3-0, but he calmed down well to close off the game strongly.
Not too terrible considering how things had begun, Soroka went on to complete five innings on 77 pitches, giving up just three hits and one more run throughout the remainder of the day.
Against the Royals yesterday, he maintained that strong energy into his second start. After pitching six innings, the Maple Maddux gave up two runs on six hits, no walks, and a few strikeouts.
Regretfully, the Royals thumped the White Sox 10-1; this is something Soroka will need to adjust to with his new team.
Even though Chicago is among the poorest teams in the American League, the former Braves starter has to get as many repetitions as possible. After taking so much time off, that’s always what he most needed, and it was not going to happen in Atlanta.
Even though it was painful, Soroka had to go since it was best for both the organization and him. He becomes a free agent at the conclusion of the season, so if he can maintain his health, I think he has a shot to find the previous iteration of himself.
Who knows? Maybe a reunion is on the horizon. In the event that Charlie Morton decides to retire and Max Fried leaves in free agency, the Braves would undoubtedly need additional starting pitchers in the upcoming offseason.
That’s one of the many reasons I’ll be closely watching Soroka this season—I wouldn’t rule it out.
