Following their incident on Saturday, the NBA punished Kris Dunn, the guard for the Utah Jazz, for two games and Jabari Smith Jr., the big for the Houston Rockets, for one game.
According to Joe Dumars, the NBA’s chief of basketball operations, Dunn was punished for punching Smith, and Smith was suspended for fighting with Dunn.
At the Toyota Center in Houston, the incident happened with 11:55 left in the second quarter of the Rockets’ 147-119 victory against the Jazz. After being given technical fouls, both players were removed from the match.
Smith will not play in Monday night’s Rockets game against the Portland Trail Blazers. Due to his game-day suspension without pay, Smith will lose $53,601.
Smith has averaged 13.3 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 65 games with Houston during his second NBA season.
Smith, the third choice overall in the 2022 NBA Draft, came from Auburn to join the Rockets.
