$20 million Dallas Cowboys starter may be a spark for the Chiefs.
Although the Dallas Cowboys have always had some of the most intriguing franchise tales in the NFL, it’s nearly hard to guess what Jerry Jones and company will come up with in 2024.
If you pay attention to Jones, he continues to support his claim that Dallas is going “all in” in 2024 in an attempt to win another Lombardi Trophy and eventually overcome their playoff disadvantage.
After the Cowboys were eliminated from the playoffs early, that reasoning made sense.
Their franchise quarterback, Dak Prescott, was dominating the MVP debate for the majority of the season and ended 2023 with one of his finest statistical seasons as a pro.
They had a squad full of talent on both sides of the ball. The Dallas Cowboys had a perfect home record going into the playoffs as the No. 2 seed.
However, Dallas choked in the opening round of the playoffs, losing to a youthful Green Bay Packers club that had just about sneaked into the postseason, as anybody with a pulse has come to anticipate.
After the defeat, there were doubts about whether Jerry Jones would take big action, but he didn’t. He declared that Prescott was the team’s starting quarterback going forward and kept head coach Mike McCarthy on board until 2024.
The Dallas Cowboys were expected by almost every NFL Insider to offer Dak Prescott a contract extension in order to clear financial space and attract fresh players via free agency.
However, Jones hasn’t taken any action and is allowing Prescott to play out the remainder of his deal.
The club has lost a number of coaches, most notably defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who left to take the head coaching position at Washington, a rival of the Cowboys, taking with him numerous assistants.
There are rumors that one of the Cowboys’ best players may soon sign a big contract deal with the team.
However, as April progresses, nothing has been done to ensure Micah Parsons, CeeDee Lamb, or Prescott’s future. Lamb seems to be holding out for a new deal as of right now.
