On Sunday night, the New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves 4-3 thanks to a two-run home run in the ninth inning by Brandon Nimmo, who had overcome an injury to enter the game as a substitute.
With two RBIs, Pete Alonso helped the Mets stop the Braves from sweeping the series.
The Mets struggled to muster hits in the previous game, losing to the opposition hitless until the ninth inning. This triumph came as a relief.
“We needed this victory so badly. Jeff McNeil, the squad’s second baseman, stated, “Everyone on the team is working hard right now.” “Any victory is a victory, and this one is significant.”
Starting at first base in Nimmo’s stead, DJ Stewart singled off Braves starter Bryce Elder to start the game.

Because of soreness in his right side, Nimmo did not start the game. However, he entered as a pinch runner in the seventh inning and finished it out by playing left field.
While still sporting his jersey and cleats, Nimmo spoke at his locker following the game and reflected on his surprising performance. “I couldn’t have imagined that today would work out this way,” he remarked.
In the Braves’ game against the team that picked him sixth overall before shipping him to Seattle, Jarred Kelenic hit a home run.
Less than 24 hours before, he’d kicked a water cooler in a fit of rage following a strikeout and suffered a fractured foot that forced him to the injured list. An explanation and apology to his teammates started the tears for Kelenic, and more followed when he met with the media to do the same.
The Braves led 3-2 in the eighth inning thanks to Marcell Ozuna’s second game-winning single of the evening.
