Stoke City team news ahead of their Championship match against Sunderland at the bet365 Stadium.
Ben Wilmot, a Stoke City defender, will miss this month’s match against Sunderland after being sidelined for three months with a knee injury.
The Potters have significant injury concerns after winning just one of their last eight league games, and they only had two recognized defenders available for last weekend’s 2-0 loss to Leicester.
Stoke City were also without Lynden Gooch, Ryan Mmaee, Michael Rose, Enda Stevens, Tyres Campbell, and Ki-Jana Hoever for the game at the King Power Stadium, with Potters manager Alex Neil hoping for some players to return after the international break.
Ciaran Clark, a former Newcastle and Aston Villa defender, has signed a deal with Stoke until the end of the season and could make his debut against Sunderland at the bet365 Stadium next weekend.
Wilmot had been a vital player for Stoke under Neil, starting the club’s opening ten league games before suffering an injury last week against Southampton. “Since I’ve been here, Ben has played every single match for me when he’s been available, so I think everyone will know how highly I rate him,” Neil said of the defender’s injury, according to Stoke’s website.
“We made him captain for the cup game against Bournemouth because I believe we need to develop his leadership abilities.” I believe he has it in him. So for him to sustain this injury now is a huge setback for both us and him.”
