Newcastle United and Arsenal’s ‘target’ reveals shocking summer transfer decision: “The best option”
Gabri Veiga was extensively linked to a move to Newcastle United during the summer transfer window.
Gabri Veiga made the decision to transfer to the Saudi Pro League in place of Newcastle United and Arsenal, who were both interested. Veiga transferred from Celta Vigo to Al-Ahli in August for an alleged fee of €38 million after the Saudi Pro League team sabotaged Napoli’s pursuit of the winger.
Veiga, who won’t turn 22 until March, recently justified his choice to turn down a transfer to one of the top clubs in European football in favor of going to the Saudi Pro League. Veiga told El Larguero, as cited by Fabrizio Romano: “I did not join Saudi solely for money.

"I'm 100% proud of my choice", told @ellarguero. pic.twitter.com/kD8jolgalI

“It was the best opportunity to advance as a player, mature under a young coach, play for a star-studded team, and watch the Saudi Premier League grow.” I’m utterly proud with my decision.
Veiga, who played for Newcastle United under Rafa Benitez last season, was reportedly a target for the club, but they decided to pursue Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes instead.
