With the NBA’s free agent signing moratorium ending on Saturday, teams could officially confirm their moves, a process often playfully described as making them “officially official.”
The Chicago Bulls took this opportunity to announce the re-signings of Patrick Williams and Adama Sanogo, with Sanogo joining on a two-way contract. However, major developments involving DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine remained unresolved for another day.
DeRozan is in discussions with the Sacramento Kings about a sign-and-trade deal that would involve the Bulls and potentially a third team, with the San Antonio Spurs emerging as a strong contender.
DeRozan met with Kings officials on Saturday to advance these talks.
Sign-and-trade agreements require a minimum commitment of three years, with DeRozan expected to secure a deal worth approximately $20 million annually, totaling around $60 million.
The Bulls, currently situated $11 to $13 million below the luxury tax threshold, are cautious about taking on additional salary that could exceed this limit. Therefore, they are seeking a third team to facilitate the transaction, which would likely involve draft picks as compensation for aiding the Kings in acquiring DeRozan.
