The Atlanta Braves are facing another major challenge with the news that third baseman Austin Riley will be sidelined for an estimated six to eight weeks due to a broken hand.
This development comes at a particularly tough time for the team, which is already dealing with several injuries.
Riley suffered the injury during the Braves’ 3-1 victory against the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. He was struck by a 97 mph fastball delivered by Angels pitcher Jack Kochanowicz in the first inning.
Subsequent MRI scans confirmed that Riley had fractured his right hand. As a result, he will be out for the remainder of the regular season and is likely to miss a portion of the playoffs if the Braves advance.
