BREAKING NEWS: Another big lost to the knights as key star exit club with immediate effect

The future of a Knights forward’s new club is unknown.

He was under contract until the end of 2023.
Jack Johns, a forward for the Newcastle Knights, has announced that he will leave the team at the conclusion of the 2023 NRL season.

Since joining the Knights in 2021, the 26-year-old, who can play either lock position or in the second row, has had difficulty securing any regular playing time.

Johns made his NRL debut in 2020 with the South Sydney Rabbitohs, where he appeared in just two games. He afterwards switched to the Knights, but has only played in 14 more games over the course of three seasons.

Five of those games took place this year, although none after Round 13 against the Sea Eagles, when he started in the second row. He made two more starts in those other games and wore the number 13 jumper. He also made two appearances from the interchange bench.

Johns, whose contract expired at the end of 2023, announced his departure from the Hunter-based club on Instagram.

“My stay in Newcastle is now over. The three years I spent living in this town again have been wonderful and filled with wonderful memories, he said on Instagram.

“I can’t express my gratitude to Newcastle residents enough for their kindness to me. The best part of football is the people you meet, and during my time here, I’ve made some friends for life.

Johns will now look for a new club, albeit there are currently no known connections.

The English Super League may possibly be an option for the 26-year-old as he competes for one of the 60 or so open NRL roster positions for the upcoming 2024 season.
