GOOD SIGNING: The Rangers Has Made A Proper Contract By Appending A Star Player On Their Team Due To…

The New York Rangers have secured restricted free agent Ryan Lindgren with a one-year contract worth $4.5 million, as confirmed by a league source.

This agreement eliminates the need for Lindgren’s arbitration hearing scheduled for August 2.

Lindgren, 26, has been a key player for the Rangers, frequently paired with Adam Fox on the top defensive line.

Over his six seasons with the team, he has appeared in 333 games, recording three goals and 17 points in the 2023-24 season.

The decision to sign Lindgren to a one-year deal aligns with the Rangers’ strategic planning, especially considering their looming salary cap issues. With star goaltender Igor Shesterkin poised to become an unrestricted free agent next summer and other restricted free agents like K’Andre Miller and Alexis Lafrenière also due for negotiations, the Rangers face financial constraints.

The short-term nature of Lindgren’s contract allows the Rangers to maintain flexibility.

It positions Lindgren for unrestricted free agency after the upcoming season, giving the team a year to evaluate whether they wish to offer him a long-term deal. There’s a possibility that discussions about an extension could occur as early as January.

General Manager Chris Drury will need to weigh Lindgren’s future with the team against the sustainability of his playing style.

Known for his physical play, Lindgren often puts his body on the line, which can be demanding on his 6-foot frame.

Despite playing through injuries, such as a cracked rib during the Eastern Conference final and various regular-season setbacks, he has demonstrated resilience and commitment.

His ability to return from injuries sooner than anticipated has earned him considerable respect within the organization.
